Emilia ClarkeHBO Asia Official TwitterBefore Emilia Clarke became a worldwide sensation after starring as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, she faced two threatening brain aneurysms. Emilia made some serious revelations and it has made many to think about the several brain diseases and how the actress opened up about something that almost took her life.Game of Thrones season eight is going to air in April and before the final season will wrap up, show’s main lead, Emilia Clarke, has revealed that she has undergone two brain surgeries in the last eight years. This is apparently the very first time when Clarke has opened up about the disease and how it affected her personal life.Emilia Clarke wrote for The New Yorker where she talked about the very first time she felt something inside her head. As per Emilia, while doing the plank exercise with her trainer, she felt that there was something that was squeezing her brain. When she tried to ignore it, the pain got severe to that extent when she had to crawl her way to the locker room.”I reached the toilet, sank to my knees, and proceeded to be violently, voluminously ill. Meanwhile, the pain shooting, stabbing, constricting pain was getting worse. At some level, I knew what was happening: my brain was damaged.”Emilia Clarke then went on to describe the process of her diagnosis and how she ended up going through a three-hour major surgery and even spent four days in the ICU. While talking about the subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), Clarke stated that it was caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain. Daenerys and Jon in conversation.Game of Thrones/ TwitterWhen Emilia Clarke woke up after the operation, she learned that the procedure had failed and she had massive bleeding. It was made clear to her that the chances of her survival were pretty slim if they did not operate on her again. The second time, the doctors went through her skull to operate. After spending roughly a month in the hospital, she felt like a shell of herself.”My mind has blocked them out. But I do remember being convinced that I wasn’t going to live.”What is Subarachnoid hemorrhage?Subarachnoid hemorrhage is bleeding into subarachnoid space — the area between the arachnoid membrane and the Pia mater surrounding the brain. The symptoms are — severe headache, vomiting, fever, and sometimes seizures. Several patients have reported having neck pain before the diagnosis.Subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs as a result of a head injury or spontaneously. The diagnosis can be determined by a CT scan of the head of done within the first six hours.Treatment for Subarachnoid hemorrhage is prompt neurosurgery or radiologically guilder interventions. Volkswagen, German automaker and its labour unions have agreed to layoff 30,000 people over the next five years at its VW brand. The aim of cutting the jobs is part of a plan to boost profitability and to provide funding for electric and self-driven cars post the disastrous carbon-emission scandal. Europe’s largest auto manufacturing company is trying to increase savings in its home-country, where costs are high. Volkswagen also has to shell out billions of euros in payments for the cleanup related to its carbon emission scandal, Reuters reported. The company is expected to make the announcement later during the day during a press conference, which would take place at the company’s headquarters in Wolfsburg. The unanimous decision of going ahead with job cuts follows eight months of intense negotiations and the works council and the trade union.Sources quoted by the news agency said the labour union leaders have agreed to the job cuts on a prior managment’s pledge to create new jobs and the VW’s investment in electronic cars (mainly at factories in Germany). The firm also plans to create additional 9,000 jobs by investing in electric car technology. According to a previous report in German newspaper Handelsblatt, about 30,000 jobs would be axed by 2020 in a bid to save about 4 billion euros. It also said that Volkswagen would cut 10,000 jobs outside Germany (focusing in North and South America).
Netflix is flexing its pricing-power muscle to kick off 2019 — hiking fees for all streaming-video plans for customers in the U.S.Netflix’s most popular plan, the Standard tier that offers two HD streams, is increasing 18%, from $10.99 to $12.99 per month. The Premium plan, which provides up to four Ultra HD streams, is increasing from $13.99 to $15.99 per month (up 14.3%). In addition, the company for the first time is hiking its Basic plan, which offers a single non-HD stream, from $7.99 to $8.99 per month (+12.5%).The new prices, which are the biggest fee hikes in Netflix’s history, will apply to all new Netflix subscribers in the U.S. immediately. Existing subscribers will be moved to the new pricing plans “over the next few months,” according to the company. Netflix’s price increases also will extend to about 40 countries in Latin America where it bills in U.S. dollars, including Uruguay, Barbados, and Belize. However, the rate hikes will not take effect (for now) in the region’s biggest markets, Mexico and Brazil. The boost in revenue from the price increases could help “ease concerns” for investors about Netflix’s growing free-cash-flow deficit, CFRA Research analyst Tuna Amobi wrote in a research note reiterating a “buy” rating on the stock. “We anticipate a relatively seamless implementation of the latest price hike, given [Netflix’s] significantly expanded content offerings relative to its competitors’ pricing,” he wrote. At $12.99 per month, Netflix’s Standard plan will be more than Hulu’s ad-free option (currently $11.99) and Showtime’s streaming service ($10.99) but still less than HBO Now ($14.99). More competition is looming: Later this year, Disney plans to bow the “Disney+” service and WarnerMedia is plotting a movie-driven subscription streaming offering, but pricing for those hasn’t been announced. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. To fund its content-spending binge, Netflix has raised billions in new debt: It reported $8.34 billion in long-term debt as of Sept. 30, up from $6.50 billion at the end of 2017. It’s also continuing to burn cash, and most recently projected negative cash flow of more than $3 billion for 2018 (versus negative free cash flow of $2 billion a year prior).Netflix last raised rates in the fourth quarter of 2017 — two years after its previous hike — and faced minimal cancellations and no slowdown in net subscriber additions. It remains to be seen how the new price increases affect subscriber growth heading into 2019. Netflix is scheduled to report Q4 2018 results on Thursday, Jan. 17.According to Netflix, existing members will be notified by email and within the Netflix app 30 days before the new prices are applied to their accounts. The exact timing will depend on a specific member’s billing cycle.Netflix had 58.4 million U.S. customers as of the end the third quarter of 2018, with a worldwide total of 137.1 million streaming members.Wall Street analysts have believed Netflix has demonstrable leeway to safely raise fees without the risk of significant backlash. Greg Peters, the company’s chief product officer, said on Netflix’s quarterly investor interview last October that “we earn the right to increase price a bit” if the company keeps delivering on customer expectations.“[W]e earn the right to increase price a bit and then we take that new revenue, invested back into the model and that sort of continuous positive cycle we get to keep going, and we foresee that that will keep going for many years in the future,” Peters said. A click on the Google or Amazon search shortcut focuses the address bar of the browser and displays one of the new search keywords that Firefox supports.Users may use @google or @amazon directly as well to run searches using these providers. The functionality mimics the ancient keyword functionality that Firefox supports for bookmarks and search engines. Keywords associated to search providers give Firefox users options to run searches directly from the browser’s address bar. If you, for example, map sp to Startpage Search you may search from the address bar using “sp keyword”, e.g. sp ghacks. Why Google and Amazon? The answer seems to be revenue related. Google is Mozilla Firefox’s default search provider in most regions and an increase in searches will give Mozilla more leverage when the deal is up for renewal.Amazon on the other hand appears to be an affiliate link that earns Mozilla money whenever users who follow it buy something on the Amazon store. All default search engines that Firefox includes by default have search keywords associated with them.Never check for updates removedThe option to set Firefox to block automatic update checks has been removed.
