It is going to be a smashing Diwali this year as two promising films, Vijay’s Bigil and Karthi’s Kaithi are all set to release worldwide on October 25. The box office will witness a stiff competition as both the films have generated positive talk with its promo materials. When Bigil and Kaithi went on floors early this year, it was reported that the film will hit the screens on Diwali. Unfortunately, Diwali this year falls on Sunday (October 27), so the respective teams decided to come early for this Diwali.Kaithi team headed by director Lokesh Kanagaraj was the first to inform that their film would release on October 25. Actor Karthi took to Twitter to share the news and wrote, “The wait is over. #KaithiReleasing25thOct #KaithiDiwali (sic)”Here’s the tweet:The wait is over. #KaithiReleasing25thOct#KaithiDiwali @Dir_Lokesh @itsNarain @SamCSmusic @DreamWarriorpic pic.twitter.com/ulX7WsfebxActor Karthi (@Karthi_Offl) October 17, 2019Within an hour since the announcement was made, the Bigil team announced the release date. Stating that the sports drama would release on October 25, Archana Kalpathi wrote, “The day we were all waiting for Our #Thalapathy’s #Bigil will hit screens worldwide on 25th October 2019 #PodraVediya #BigilDiwali (sic)”Here’s the tweet:The day we were all waiting for Our #Thalapathy’s #Bigil will hit screens worldwide on 25th October 2019 #PodraVediya #BigilDiwali @Ags_production @actorvijay @Atlee_dir @arrahman #Nayanthara @Screensceneoffl @SonyMusicSouth pic.twitter.com/CHnuJbJRwDArchana Kalpathi (@archanakalpathi) October 17, 2019Trade pundits expected that Bigil might release a day earlier than Kaithi so that it could have a solo run in the theatres at least for a day. It is surprising to see the producers of both movies agreeing to release their films on the same date.Since its Diwali time, theatres in Tamil Nadu and the rest of the country can comfortably occupy two big films without any problem. The opening weekend is quite crucial for Bigil as it has been made on a mammoth budget of Rs 180 crore. Kaithi relies more on positive word of mouth and there are more chances for Bigil to have an edge over Kaithi with respect to the number of screens allotted. While Bigil is a sports-drama featuring Vijay in the lead role, Kaithi is an intense thriller flick with Karthi playing the hero.ALSO READ | Karthi’s Kaithi to lock horns with Vijay’s Bigil and Sanga Thamizhan on DiwaliALSO READ | Vijay’s Bigil censored with U/A certificate.
