LA HABRA – In a dominating effort, the La Habra High School boys soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division III playoffs with a 5-0 victory over South Hills on Friday. The Highlanders started fast, scoring on a header by Edgar Bran. The lead soon doubled when Greg Francis directed in a loose ball in the penalty area. Huskies coach Jason Surrell said fatigue was a factor in the outcome. “We were a bit worn out from the Santa Ana game,” he said. “We just didn’t have the energy. “We came out flat. Our guys were just emotionally and physically tired. We had decent chances, we just couldn’t put it in. The fourth goal was scored by Francis, who took a pass and got around two defenders before firing a shot into the back of the net. Facundo Bruno later evaded a Huskies defender and scored the game’s final goal. “Our athleticism was better and we took advantage of our speed and height,” Highlanders coach Stephen Aanderud said. “Once we got that 2-0 lead, I knew we were going to win. “We did our scouting on them, and we knew what they had.
